Texting abbreviations are used by teens every day. Friends and family use them to shorten text messages and save time. 2.3 billion text messages are sent each day, making it a part of most American lives and 72.2% of cell phone owners have a text messaging plan on their phone. The majority of people that text in the United States are teenagers. Not only can continuous and persistent texting affect your grades in school but also the way you behave and talk.
At school, teenagers will say texting abbreviations to each other, rather than using real words. In my opionion, I think texting has an effect on our national reading and language arts scores in the US. Teens are constantly being affected by texting. Their grammar and words are being harmed by text messaging.
Many of us can resolve this problem by turning your cell phone off during class and only spending a minimum amount of time texting people. If the majority of teens do this we most likely will get reading scores up and increased.
