Anti 'Pants On The Ground'

On this season of American Idol, Larry Platt, a man who was way over the age limit decided to sing his own rap song called 'Pants On The Ground' at the audtitions. Thousands of people watched this performance and were shocked yet laughing the next moment. The following day after that night on American Idol, the video clip of his performane was a web sensation. Larry Platt was interviewed on many television shows, he had his own ring tone of 'Pants On The Ground' and was also an unfortunate role model to some people.

Adolescent boys, men, and the elderely men, took Larry Platt's song as an inspiration. Many men started wearing their pants in the 'sag and drag' style. This style is when men wear pants that are too big for them and eventually sag in the back, showing their boxers. Some people were outraged and soon, there was an Anti 'Pants on the Ground' campaign. A new York state official paid for six, 22-foot tall billboards in Brooklyn, NY, just to make people aware of this situation.

Honestly, I find this whole conflict disturbing and inspiring at the same time.

Disturbing, because I don't find men older then my mom, wearing their pants in a 'sag and drag' style attracting and that people actually took Larry Platt's performance seriously.

I find this inspiring because I realized that what the media is showing us, we emulate and try to copy. This includes computers, ads, television, magazines, and movies. Larry Platt's performance on American Idol is a significant example.

As we grow and our technology progresses, I hope in that near future all of us will not be taking information from the media as a serious situation and inspiration, because if we do, we might not have personalities anymore... just one.
